Dhaka-- (UNB) – Bangladesh will receive 67.8 million US dollars from Asian Development Bank (ADB) for implementing its Southwest Flood Damage Rehabilitation Project.

An agreement to this effect was singed between Bangladesh and the bank in Manila yesterday (Monday), according to a message received here.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Manila Mohammad Farooq and ADB President Tadao Chino signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.

The Southwest Flood Damage Rehabilitation Project aims to restore normal socioeconomic activities in the areas, which have been devastated by flooding.

The project will rehabilitate national, regional and feeder roads, embankments and drains, railways, community sanitation and water supply facilities, and seed multiplication farms.

It will also raise socioeconomic rehabilitation funds to be managed by Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF).

The project is expected to reduce flooding and water logging on farmlands, benefiting the residents and farmers of low-lying flood-prone areas.
